Recycling Your Old Computers

Many progressive towns and cities are either already recycling or are thinking about recycling old computers. Numerous municipalities already do this with television sets, but not so many do it with computers.

There are quite a few reusable parts in a computer when you think of it, but most owners just throw their old computers away when they stop working or become ‘too slow’.

Then they go out and purchase a new one which has precisely the same DVD player as they just put in the bin. That goes for the internet card, the hard drive and the modem and other bits and pieces too, I am certain. There might even be toxic substances in the chips that could pollute the soil at the landfill site.

It will almost certainly be standard practice in the not too distant future to recycle computers and other items of electronic equipment. In fact there are already some places that gratefully accept ‘old’ computers, although there are not a lot that recycle the parts out of broken ones.

Doing Charity Work In Swimwear

If you are interested in charity work, then you will realise how difficult it is to come up with new ideas for helping people or raising money, especially if you are on ‘the committee’.

Not everyone agrees with charity work, believing that governments ought to take on the function of charity worker, but no one could refute that governments are not doing enough, so individuals and charitable organizations have to step in.

As a supporter or as a charity worker, you obviously have the right to choose whom you support. A hundred years ago, middle class charity workers attempted to help the local poor; then after the Second World War, charities started searching further afield and Africa and other places became the focus of their assistance.

Nowadays, the cycle has gone full circle for a lot of people and they are beginning to look to the local underprivileged again. The old expression that ‘Charity Begins At Home’ appears to be ringing true with people again. So what could you do to assist the local underprivileged?

Muhammad Ali

Muhammad Ali was 70 on January 17th, 2012. He was the most feared opponent in the boxing ring in his long and dynamic career and with very good cause. He won the world heavy weight boxing championship three times after winning a gold medal at the Olympics and was named sportsman of the century by the BBC and Sports Illustrated.

Muhammad Ali was born in Louisville, Kentucky on January 17th, 1942 and was christened after his father Cassius Marcellus Clay. They added the epithet Junior, to distinguish him from his father who was a billboard painter. In 1967, Cassius changed his name to Muhammad Ali and became a Muslim.

A local white Louisville police officer named Joe E. Martin was the first person to see that the young Clay had something extraordinary when he watched him fighting over a stolen bicycle as a twelve tear old. Martin encouraged Clay to go to the boxing ring with him. Martin and Clay trained together at Stoner’s Gym.

Save Money By Shopping For Clothes At Charity Shops

Quite a few people, especially families, tidy out their wardrobes of clothes that are no longer worn at least once a year. They take these superfluous clothes to shops supporting charities and good causes like Dr. Bernardo’s, The Salvation Army and Oxfam, who them check them for damage, launder them and resell them. The profits created are passed on to the pertinent good cause.

The point is, that these shops will not accept ‘rubbish’ because they would not be able to resell it. They would actually lose money after laundering, displaying and dumping fees. Therefore you will not find clothing with rips, tears snags or stains on them. In fact, most clothes, including shoes are of very high quality.

U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s ‘Toys for Tots’ Program

The U. S. Marine Corps Reserve has a sixty odd year old scheme to collect toys for tots from needy families both in the United States and in other countries. The aim is to save new unwrapped toys during October, November and December every year and then hand those toys out as Christmas presents to deprived children in the community in which the campaign is being conducted.

Their objective is to deliver a message of hope to underprivileged children in order to encourage them to become ‘responsible, productive, patriotic citizens’ in the words of their web site.

One of the foremost aims of Toys for Tots is to unite the communities where U.S Marine Reserve units are stationed for the three months of October, November and December each year in the collection and distribution of new toys to children from less well-off families in order to help them experience the joys of Christmas.
